Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in a first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We will start by reviewing the therapy process, answering any questions you may have, and discussing the Informed Consent form. You’ll have a chance to share your background and what you hope to achieve in therapy. This session is about building trust and understanding, and there is no pressure to dive deep into personal details right away. My goal is to meet you where you are and create a safe, non-judgmental space for you.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Everything you share in our sessions is kept private, with a few exceptions outlined in the Informed Consent form. If you have any questions about confidentiality, please ask during our sessions so you feel fully informed and comfortable.

What types of therapy do you offer?

I offer a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Grief Recovery Method, mindfulness and somatic informed therapy, and strength based, self compassion therapy, among others. We’ll discuss which approach might best suit your needs, based on your goals and challenges.

How many therapy sessions will I need?

The number of therapy sessions varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some clients may benefit from just a few sessions, while others may choose longer-term therapy. During our initial sessions, we will discuss a plan tailored to your needs and revisit it as your goals evolve.

How do I know if therapy is working?

Therapy progress is unique to each person, but regular check-ins during sessions will help us evaluate how you’re feeling about the work we’re doing. You’ll have an active role in assessing what’s helpful, and together we’ll adapt the approach to ensure you’re moving toward your goals. Many clients begin to feel changes after a few sessions, but meaningful progress often builds over time.

Do you offer online therapy or virtual sessions?

Yes! I offer virtual therapy sessions to clients in Alberta through a secure, confidential video platform, making it convenient for you to attend from the comfort of your home or anywhere that’s safe and private. This option can be especially helpful for those with busy schedules or who prefer remote access.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on the type and length of the session. A 50 minute Individual Adult session is $222. Insurance coverage and direct billing for therapy may also be available depending on your plan, and  a receipt is provide receipts for reimbursement.

Do you accept insurance?

I do accept some forms of insurance for therapy services. Please check with your provider to see if you have coverage for counseling or mental health services. I am happy to provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Booking a session is simple! You can reach out through the website’s contact form, by email at connect@cranewellness.ca or book in directly at cranewellness.janeapp.com.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

How long will it take?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
